The facility will provide a full compliment of diagnostic, oncology and emergency care services. Construction is scheduled to be complete in the third quarter of 2009.<br /></p><p>GEM Engineering, Inc. is proud to be a member of the team working to design and construct this important addition to the Louisville community. After conducting a <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2">geotechnical</span> exploration, GEM provided construction phase monitoring and testing services for the project. GEM field technicians observed and tested soil fill placement; concrete placement for foundations, slabs-on-grade, elevated slabs, and the linear accelerator; and bolted and welded connections for the structural steel framing. GEM also monitored temperatures for the mass concrete placement for the linear accelerator foundation to ensure that temperature cracking of the mass concrete did not compromise the integrity of this sensitive diagnostic component.
